AJ Group Derby’s Managing Director Alan Jones is so passionate and knowledgeable when it comes to his work that if you spoke to him about flooring you would conclude that it is what he always wanted to do. Actually, he had not considered running his own company, but the economic downturn in the late 1980’s pushed him into setting up AJ Floorcraft. So, rising to life’s challenges in 1990, based in the Midlands, in Derby and involving less than a handful of people, he established a business where relationships with customers truly matter and this continues to be the ethos of the company, a result of which is that much of our business is repeat or comes through recommendation. The company grew and in 2009 expanded into decorating headed up by Mark Hurst, essentially being able to offer a dual service approach and renamed themselves AJ Flooring & Coatings.

AJ Floorcraft & Coatings further expanded in 2019, acquiring Maurice Parker, the renowned Derby-based Kitchen, Bathroom & Tiling Company, further cementing Alan’s commitment to providing quality products and outstanding customer service. We rebranded just this year to become AJ group Derby Ltd. Our departments consist of AJ Floorcraft, AJ Painting and Decorating and AJ Bespoke Interiors – Kitchens and Bathrooms.

Today the company employs almost 30 people with many of the staff being employed for more than 10 years, some since the company was founded, reflecting the company’s culture which is rooted in family values.

All of our floor layers and painters and decorators are either qualified to, or working towards a minimum of NVQ Level II in their respective trades. We are accredited by SMAS (Safety Management Advisory Services), are members of Constructionline and Contract Flooring Association, all our fully employed tradesmen hold CSCS cards.
