En-Suite Bathroom Remodel
The Client Brief
Creating a calm, modern yet subtly rustic atmosphere was our client’s main priority for this bathroom. The brief was intentionally minimal, with only a shower, basin, and toilet required. The original layout placed the shower within a small recess at one end of the room, leaving a long, underused walkway where the basin and toilet were positioned. Combined with floor-to-ceiling tiling in dated finishes, the space felt narrow and claustrophobic.
Before & After

The Design
To improve both flow and functionality, we proposed reworking the layout entirely. The recessed shower wall was blocked up (with the reclaimed space used in an adjoining room), allowing the shower to be relocated to the furthest point of the bathroom. This created space for a generous 1200mm-wide walk-in Merlyn shower, immediately opening up the space and giving a much greater sense of light and openness.
The basin was replaced with an Ambience Bain dark wood, wall-hung vanity unit to enhance the feeling of space while introducing warmth. The rustic tones of the wood complement the natural herringbone wall tiles beautifully, adding character without overwhelming the room.
For the main wall finishes, Ca’Pietra Oasis ceramic gloss white tiles were selected. These tiles come in subtle tonal variations, and by laying them in a random pattern, our tiler created a unique, organic finish. The variation in tone prevents the walls from feeling flat, adding depth and visual interest. To further enhance texture, smaller Ca’Pietra mosaic tiles were used as a splashback behind the basin, creating a distinct feature within the space.
Tavistock Chrome sanitaryware and heating fixtures were chosen to balance the warmer materials with a clean, modern edge. The Zehnder Alban radiator reinforces this aesthetic with its sleek, linear design. Its parallel lines draw the eye naturally along the length of the room toward the shower, while its open-ended form allows for easy towel access.
The Finished Result
Overall, our client was delighted with the final result, noting that the redesigned layout makes far better use of the space and creates a seamless, cohesive flow throughout the bathroom.
